Sarah’s 12 Mile Charity Sea Swim, Saturday 8th September,2012.

I will be undertaking a lone sea swim from Lundy Island to Hartland Quay on Saturday 8th September setting off from Lundy Island at 7.30am.

WHY AM I DOING THIS?
I have been feeling very frustrated lately as several friends and/or partners of friends, or parents of work colleagues, have been going through the ordeal of cancer, or have very sadly lost someone dear to them, and it has inspired me to undertake a charity sea swim and I really felt I needed to actually DO SOMETHING! WHO AM I SUPPORTING?
So, I have asked those closest to me who are actually going through the tough times or are supporting a loved one through the illness, to nominate a charity that has helped them, and the monies raised through my swim will be shared between these. Please sponsor me here.

The charities I am swimming for are:
North Devon Hospital’s Chemotherapy Unit
The Lundy Fund
East Down Village Hall
RNLI Lifeboats
Air Ambulance
St Wilfred’s Hospice (in memory of a dear friend)

LOGISTICS
It is approximately 12 miles to swim between Lundy & my arrival point at Hartland Quay, and to my knowledge I will be the only female to have ever undertaken this.
I will have a support boat alongside me. I am being supported by Choppers Crazy Boat Trips: http://www.chopperscrazyboattrips.com I will also be monitored by Swansea Coast Guard, so it’s not quite as impetuous as it sounds!! As you can see from the photograph below, my best friend and ‘little brother’ Ben the family dog, will have his life jacket on ready to help rescue me, if needs be!! :-) Please sponsor me here.

SUPPORT
I also have my Wing Man/Support Dude, who will accompany Chopper on the boat and make sure I do not cheat LOL, but more importantly will oversee me throughout the swim, from a safety aspect. I am hugely grateful to the very capable David Norkett, who has agreed to fill this vital role. David is a qualified first aider, and also teaches Lifeguarding courses, as well as his full-time job at North Devon Hospital. Please sponsor me here.
